Woods used in the lights include Mahogany, Birch, Cherry, Maple, Redheart, Paduak, and Gonçalo Alves (Kingwood). Some lights feature mica (transparent rock) for all or part of the "glazing". I don't think it is very practical to try and replace bulbs in lights attached to ceilings or walls very often, so I often use bulbs rated for 14 volts and either 10,000 or 16,000 hours. Running them on the standard 12 volts means they should last at least 4 times longer. So 40,000 hours at an hour a day, 365 days a years means a life of about 110 years - should be good enough. In other lights I am using LEDs, which basically never burn out, they just get dimmer over a period of tens of thousands of hours: one type I used is rated at 100,000 hours to half brightness.
I introduced working scale fluorescent lights at the Chicago International 2001 show in the workshop roombox, and they proved very popular. They available as a separate item. A standard 2 tube 4' (scale) long fixture, with the required electronics and power supply will start at $185 I also make a "grow light" style fixture as well for use in a greenhouse. I also make versions for modern kitchens and dining area, shop display cases and many other configurations. The effect is wonderful and makes a tremendous impact in any room where one is installed.
